Famous Bands from Worcester

Here at Guitar Lessons Worcester, we are passionate about inspiring the next generation of guitarists & bands! Worcester has a good music scene and has produced some world famous artists over the years, as well as established national musicians! With Dave Mason as perhaps the most famous, having recorded with the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton and Fleetwood Mac over the years, we hope we can inspire to believe you can make it massive having started in Worcester!

Dave Mason, born in Worcester in 1946, rose to fame with his band Traffic during the late 1960s. The band's first album Mr Fantasy (1967) reached the number 16 in the UK albums chart, with their second self-titled album peaking at number 9 in the UK albums chart. Yet, Mason was often a lone member of the band, disappearing on numerous occasions and returning out of the blue. This was in part due to a friendship he had struck up with an up and coming guitarist named Johnny Hendrix, more famously known by his stage name Jimi Hendrix! The two of them regularly recorded together with perhaps the most famous of which being Dave Mason's backing acoustic guitar part in Hendrix's cover of All Along The Watchtower - a song Mason encouraged Hendrix to cover. The song shot to 5th in the UK singles charts when released in October 1968. Mason has also worked with the Rolling Stones, recording with them during the 1968 album Beggars Banquet, as well as Micheal Jackson and Fleetwood Mac to name but a few. Truly one of the best guitarists of his generation he remains Worcester's most famous musical export!

Mike Paradinas is a well known British electronic musician working extensively in the underground scene with his band μ-Ziq (pronounced like the word "music"). Brought up on the electronic music of the 80s, the likes of Human League and Heaven 17, he spent 8 years as a keyboard player for the band Blue Innocence before they split in 1995. As this band drew to its close he formed μ-Ziq with Blue Innocence bass guitar player Francis Naughton which quickly drew the attention of music crits. Releasing three albums before Blue Innocence split and a further four albums today μ-Ziq was signed to Virgin records with Paradinas given his own recording label Planet Mu to record like-minded musicians. A real expert in his field Paradinas remains at the top of his game, well known for his unusual compositions!

F*** Buttons were started by two school friends, Andrew Hung and Benjamin John Power, in Worcester during the summer of 2004. Formed to provide music to one of Hung's films the pair quickly gained a cult following in Bristol, with the Times magazine saying that F*** Buttons were an "adrenaline pumping, ear purging slab of towering, pristine noise". During 2007 F*** Buttons continued to gain popularity and critical acclaim from within the music industry for their unusual sound - their debut album, Street Horrrsing was extremely well received with music from their second album Tarot Sport being used by Danny Boyle during the Olympic Opening Ceremony. Certainly, a band to look out for the future, their powerful & dynamic sound will propel them further on the international scene over the next few years!
